This blog exists only as an archive. It is a journal that serves as a window into my life as a Marine combat veteran serving in Iraq and Afghanistan; it was written with no filter, no politics and no agenda. Please feel free to follow my journey from beginning to end. Welcome to my life.
En route to the CDTI/Sacre Coeur with another emergent surgical patient. Johnny was a secretarial student until the earthquake, which killed his roommates and crushed his hand. He spent most of the following days searching for his family, and determined yesterday that he was the only survivor. When he finally saw a doctor this morning, he was told to come and see "the Americans" because the doctor couldn't help him. After examining his hand, Team Rubicon is transporting him to the hospital, with the timely assistance of some US security contractors.
Johnny kept his finger! He was debrided, his hand was reassembled, and his hand was casted to hold everything together. Now he's on his way back to the hospital for re-eval.
He is also completely alone, with nothing but the clothes on his back. He lost his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. "The only one I have left is God."
I gave him my emergency rations. They'll feed him for two days.
