This blog exists only as an archive. It is a journal that serves as a window into my life as a Marine combat veteran serving in Iraq and Afghanistan; it was written with no filter, no politics and no agenda. Please feel free to follow my journey from beginning to end. Welcome to my life.

  1. The picture of you and your Dad ,a father's love, priceless! Best wishes to you and your family! Welcome home!

  2. The love of a family and mother is cherished and treasured. A father is the Lion at the gate for the whole family and always will have the father's love from the heart of a lion. What a feeling that must be.

    Glad you're home safe.

  3. AWsome, awesome, awesome pictures! I am so glad you are home. The smiles say it all.

  4. Welcome home, Jake. I'm a FOG is Hermosa who just stumbled on your site a couple of months ago.

    Salute to your family, too.

    Semper Fi, Marine!

  7. So I've never commented. I usually don't. I accidently found your blog about four months ago, and check back many times a day. I waited (as im sure everyone else did) for posts that seemed to never come fast enough. Days would pass, and I will admite without even knowing you I worried. I'm not sure what the connection is but I will see her publicly as a man that I cried when I saw the photos of you home. Weird cause I'm a pretty unemtional guy. Thank you Jake for all that you have done, and all that will you do. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Your parents need a big thank you to for raising such an outstanding man as well. Welcome home sir....

  8. Thanks Jake for your service and Welcome Home!! Reading your Blog since the article in the WSJ.

Game Day is less than 4 days away -maybe we'll see you in Las Vegas. Heard at least 11 Badger charters from MadTown plus the BAND are headed West next week.

    Go Badgers!!

  9. What a great, happy day that must have been! After a few months of reading your blogs, I teared up when I saw the video of you hugging your mom.
What a moment! And when your girlfriend jumped up to hug you, it was even better!
I hope your enjoying every minute of your welcome home.
    You deserve it, Jake.
And you can write like nobody's business... so please don't STOP! I love reading about your life. Beth in Atlanta
